Harrington makes it Three!

While signing his scorecard, for the fourth and final time, on the 18th Green at Oakland Hills South Course only a two shot eagle  at the par 4 last by Ben Curtis, who lead the tournament after the first three rounds, would be able to force a playoff for the 90th PGA Championship Title.

Unfortunately for Curtis it was not to be and he would finish in tied second with Sergio Garcia. Sergio who started his final round playing the first two holes in 3 under par, found himself battling Padraig in an almost match play affair. Both players matching each other shot for shot down the back nine stretch.

The impeccable golf played by both men was only marred coming down 18. Both players missing the fairway and struggling to hit the green in 3 after extremely poor drives in relation to the spectacle the gallery was being treated to! The Bug can’t help but wonder what an opportunity this was for Curtis as it was evident that a more exciting match play battle was taking place ahead of him, by the lack of spectators following his final group. In the world of professional golf it is the smallest of graces that one has to take advantage of to rise above the rest of a Major Championship field.

Curtis has however sealed his place in the top 10 automatic Ryder Cup picks. Padraig has now equalled Tiger’s feat of winning back to back Majors - Both have now won the British Open and followed it up with PGA Championship victories. Condolences to Sergio but with Tiger gone it is now evident that there is a New Kid on the block!
