Out for a long drive with Tiger

Tiger Woods says he faces a tough test at the start of the WGC Match play Championship in Arizona today. JB Holmes, number 53 in the world rankings, comes up against the great one today on the first day of the 5 day tournament as one of very few who is able out-drive Tiger, and thus in with a good chance according to his opponent. Under these conditions, he’ll probably be hitting it past me all day,” said Woods. “I know he doesn’t spin the ball alot with his driver, and that’s one of the reasons it goes as far as it does.”

Europe’s best players are out in force in Arizona today also with Colin Montgomerie taking on world number 7 Jim Furyk, whilst top-ranked Briton Justin Rose faces Rod Pampling and Luke Donald comes up against his English counterpart Nick Dougherty.

One thing that is for sure is that Match Play often throws up some surprises, and the Bug is sure that this year’s event will be no different!

Golfers Get the Tour Pro Treatment

Amateur golfers are being offered a unique insight into how top tournament players such as Ernie Els, Michael Campbell and Nick Dougherty benefit from cutting edge golf equipment and custom fitting technology when the Callaway Golf Tour Truck calls in at their local course on its way around Europe. Just like their heroes, golfers will be able to experience having their swings analysed and clubs custom fitted and built all in the same day by Callaway Golf’s European Tour Head Technician Paul Monks and his team.

They will also be able to enjoy seeing their video uploaded to the See Your Game interactive swing analysis website. The impressive 28-tonne mobile truck, likened to a mobile Formula 1 pit facility, features all the latest technology required to achieve the ultimate in fine-tuning for golf.

“Players such as Ernie Els use the Tour Truck all the time to make often minor adjustments but which can make a significant improvement to their performance,” said Paul Monks, who personally built Michael Campbell’s clubs before he won the 2005 US Open Championship. “So this is a great opportunity for amateur golfers to be expertly custom fitted and have their new clubs made to measure on the same day.” The 18-metre long Tour Truck has two seven-metre pop-out sections, and is kitted out with every cutting-edge device, including state-of-the-art equipment to customise iron loft and lie angles, cut shafts to size, put on or change grips, measure swing weights, plus grind and buff clubs.

Among the hot products available – and specially designed for custom fitting – are the new Callaway Golf Hyper X Driver , FT-i Squareway Woods, FT Fairway Woods, FT Hybrids, FT Irons, FT i-Brids, Big Bertha 08 Irons and a complete line-up of new women’s golf equipment. During individual fittings, golfers will be advised on the correct loft, shaft and grip thickness to maximise their distance and accuracy. They will then be able to have their clubs made up and ready to take home the same day.

There will also be an opportunity to book a See Your Game interactive swing analysis, including a 15-minute video session uploaded to a dedicated personal web page with a link that is later e-mailed to the golfer, and which can be forwarded by e-mail to impress golfing friends. The next stop for the Callaway Golf Tour Truck is at Silvermere Golf Club Surrey on Saturday 23rd February between 10 am and 5 pm. Fitting sessions can be booked in advance.
